Nobody Likes Small Talk.

How are you?

We’ve been asked this question a million times, but we always have the same answers..

Great.

Good.

Eh.

So-so.

Whatever.

If we’re REALLY feeling the conversation, we might throw in an “I’m” in front of those.

If we’re lucky, it ends there.. otherwise, we’re on the hook to hear today's forecast and other mundane things no one cares about.

We’ve got news: Nobody likes small talk.

Small talk is painful because we’re trying so hard to get out of it – what if we eliminate it altogether?

Approach your day to day conversations with enthusiasm. They’d be less annoying if you actually tried.

You know when you sit down at dinner with your best friend and get that “I have so much to tell you” feeling?

Imagine putting that same energy into the day to day How Are You’s – Answering them with more than one word.

Small talk would cease to exist, life would be great.

When you answer with enthusiasm, there’s two things that can happen:

  • Scenario A: You throw the other person so far off, they’ll never hit you with a How Are You again. Mission accomplished: Small Talk eliminated.

  • Scenario B: The person is excited you’re excited. They respond back with equal enthusiasm, you’re now having an engaging conversation.  Mission accomplished: Small Talk eliminated.

Either way - you win.
